It's Draft Day!
Mock Draft 2.0
Personally, I see the draft as a massive crap-shoot. I have a feeling the record for trades within the first round will be broken. According to Daniel Jeremiah, the Broncos and the Dolphins are looking to trade down, with possible suitors being the Cowboys and Eagles. Most likely, this mock draft will look nothing like what actually happens. Sam Bradford has to get me one point at least...right?
1.Rams - Sam Bradford (QB)
This should be a lock by now.
2.Lions - Ndamukong Suh (DT)
Another lock.
3.Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy (DT)
Lock, lock, lock...
4.Redskins – Trent Williams (OT)
First upset? Williams is gaining steam and Okung is sliding according to the experts.
5.Chiefs – Russell Okung (OT)
BPA for Scott Pioli. Lord knows Matt Cassel needs some protection.
6.Seahawks – Eric Berry (S)
Head Coach Pete Carroll must know how much of a stud Berry is. He'll be torn between him and Spiller, that's for sure.
7.Browns – Joe Haden (CB)
The Browns could attempt to trade up a spot to get Berry, but if not, they might as well take the next best DB in Haden.
8.Raiders – Jason Pierre-Paul (DE)
Rumour has it the Raiders want Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, who is available according to most reporters. If they keep their pick, you have to think Al Davis goes with a combine king. Pierre-Paul is a freak athlete and fits the Raider mould.
UPDATE: Adam Schefter reports the Raiders 'aren't interested' in Big Ben. Freak athlete it is then...
9.Bills – Bryan Bulaga (OT)
If I'm Chan Gailey, I have the option of Jimmy Clausen or Jason Campbell from the Redskins for a third or fourth rounder. The Bills being the Bills, it would be smart if they paid Campbell a heck of a lot less and took someone to protect him here. Then again, the Bills could take Tim Tebow with that 3rd round pick.
10.Jaguars – C.J. Spiller (RB)
I wouldn't do it. The Jags already have Maurice Jones-Drew, and need help on defense in a big way. Kyle Wilson would probably be a better choice here.
11.Broncos – Earl Thomas (S)
The Broncos will almost certainly trade down if they can find a suitor.
12.Dolphins – Dan Williams (DT)
He fits their scheme and starts immediately. Do it, Bill.
13.49ers – Kyle Wilson (CB)
The 49ers need an OT and a CB. This fills one need.
14.Seahawks – Dez Bryant (WR)
A surprising pick, but after missing out on Spiller, Seattle needs a playmaker opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
15.Giants – Rolando McClain (LB)
This pick will almost certainly be DE or LB. The rapid decline of the Giants front seven needs new life. Now.
16.Titans – Derrick Morgan (DE)
The Titans have no pass-rush. Go figure.
17.49ers – Jimmy Clausen (QB)
Huzzah! This would be a shock, but could definitely happen. I wouldn't personally do it, giving confidence in Alex Smith instead, but who knows what Mike Singletary is thinking.
18.Steelers – Maurkice Pouncey (C/G)
Steelers need line help. Wide Receiver will be addressed later with someone like Golden Tate or Eric Decker.
19.Falcons – Brandon Graham (DE)
A steal for the Falcons, who need to get to Drew Brees more often.
20.Texans – Ryan Mathews (RB)
Seems like a lock. CB is always possible though, especially with Kareem Jackson and Devin McCourty still available.
21.Bengals – Jermaine Gresham (TE)
Gresham is a threat. For the sake of Carson Palmer, give him another weapon. If Marvin Lewis needs persuading, show him the last two games of the season where Palmer had no one to throw too (no.85 was on Revis Island, remember).
22.Patriots – Sergio Kindle (LB)
Word is the Patriots are high on Kindle.
23.Packers – Anthony Davis (OT)
The Packers need help at OT and CB. Two highly rated CBs are available in this mock, but Davis is moving up a lot of boards and needs to be the selection.
24.Eagles - Devin McCourty (CB)
BPA for the Eagles, who will replace Sheldon Brown here.
25.Ravens – Kareem Jackson (CB)
The Ravens are primarily looking at Defense or WR. Demaryius Thomas could go here, but Jackson would look great next to Ed Reed.
26.Cardinals – Jerry Hughes (LB)
Jerry Porter is a stop-gap, and probably isn't long for the Cardinals. A highly-productive LB like Hughes is the need.
27.Cowboys – Charles Brown (OT)
Doug Free isn't ready to start at LT, and maybe Brown won't be either. But at least Dallas will have a choice.
28.Chargers – Jared Odrick (DE)
BPA on defense for Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith.
29.Jets – Mike Iupati (G)
Rumour is Alan Faneca is gonna be released. Iupati is no stop-gap, he's much better than that.
30.Vikings – Jahvid Best (RB)
Yes, he's similar to Percy Harvin, but he would excel in the Vikings offense as a 3rd down back. CB has been covered with signing of Lito Sheppard, so the only other possibility is a Linebacker or a QB of the future.
31.Colts – Linval Joseph (DT)
Bill Polian, get a lineman. Either side of the ball, it doesn't matter.
32.Saints – Sean Weatherspoon (LB)
It has to be DE or LB for the Saints, who need to get better in run-support.
About Last Time...
The Jets got their man in Jason Taylor, who was quick to announce himself as 'not the devil' after playing for rivals Miami for so long... I can't see Demaryius Thomas in the first round unless a team trades up for him.
Quote of the Week
"I think somewhere along the way, they'll see that I'm not the devil, that I'm a likeable guy I think in a lot of ways, and hopefully we'll have a good relationship." - Jason Taylor attempts to work himself into the good books of the Jets faithful.
Throw The Flags
Throw them at Ben Roethlisberger...again. This moronic idiot was finally given his punishment yesterday. Roger Goodell ordered him to under-go comprehensive behavioural evaluation by professionals for conduct detrimental to the image of the National Football League. He also suspended him for six games. Roethlisberger has become a villain to all of Pittsburgh, and it's no surprise the Steelers have signed former back-up Byron Leftwich and are actively seeking a trade for a top-10 pick in tonight's draft. The Raiders have just this moment ruled out a move for him, which makes me think the Seahawks have the biggest chance of getting him for a discount at #14.
